Pensacola — the westernmost city in the Florida panhandle — is a major seaport on the Pensacola Bay, and home to a large Naval Air Station. Its major industries are defense, tourism, healthcare, education and construction. Interestingly, it is nicknamed “The City of Five Flags,” in a nod to the five governments that have ruled it during its history — the flags of Spain, France, Great Britain, the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. Former U.S. Congressman Joe Scarborough, who has made a name for himself as MSNBC’s Morning Joe, calls the area home and affectionally refers to it as the “Redneck Riveria.”
