Adele Johnson

pnet-bio-johnson-adeleThe Executive Director of Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation, Johnson is responsible for the organization’s strategic direction, fundraising and the effective use of financial resources, internal and external relationship management, and program oversight.

Under Johnson’s leadership the Foundation has more than quadrupled its revenue facilitating $1.5 million in contributions last year. Past donations augmented the launch of after school enrichment activities for 1000 students, recruited and awarded 42 scholarships to graduating seniors, initiated a literacy program where first graders increased their reading by 2.2 grade levels, supported professional development for 60 RPS math teachers through coaching and monthly seminars, made mentor training available to over 500 new volunteers, expanded opportunities for exposure to STEM related programs like the USA Science and Engineering Festival, and increased RPS student participation in experiential programs such as robotics competitions and Model United Nations.

She is the former Director of Community Relations for Capital One Financial Corporation where she was responsible for integrating components of their philanthropic activities in six major markets around the country. For the previous 13 years she was president of the Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council a non profit organization that is a match-maker between major corporations and minority owned companies.

Johnson received a Bachelor of Science degree in urban planning from Virginia Commonwealth University and has also earned executive education certificates from Dartmouth College, University of Wisconsin and the University of Richmond.

In addition to hanging out with her grandchildren, her favorite pastime activities include kayaking, outdoor concerts, choral singing, and tropical travel. She is passionate about improving the literacy of young children and especially loves reading with elementary students.
