The Executive Director of the Montgomery County Ohio College Promise in Dayton, Smiga is charged with fulfilling the organization’s mission to identify, select and support up to 500 poverty impacted, eighth-grade students from Montgomery County who have shown academic promise. The program sets out that these scholars will attend and graduate from college within the next 10 years.

Smiga is a retired school superintendent, who served Centerville City Schools in suburban Dayton until 2009. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Miami University in Ohio and performed additional post-master’s study in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.
