Myrick — who recently won a second term as a City Councilman in Richmond, Calif. — was a driving force in the proposal for the Richmond Promise, which will be coming to fruition with the support of the Chevron Corporation. The initiative was announced in August of this year.
Community activism is at his core. At the age of 21 he founded Standing To Represent Our Next Generation (STRONG) to encourage young people to be politically active. Myrick has also been focused on environmental protection and conservation, youth empowerment, the creation of living-wage jobs and improving public safety.
A graduate of Kennedy High in Richmond, Myrick studied journalism at Chabot College in Hayward, Calif., and political science at La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif.
