The Detroit College Promise bills inself as “a grassroots version of the Kalamazoo Promise for Detroit and Detroit Public Schools.” Established by Nat Pernick in the spring of 2008, it seeks to motivate Detroit students to make education a priority. The scholarships are to be used at any Michigan public college or university, simply for attending a Detroit Public School and living in Detroit throughout high school.
